I had fun typing whatever the hell was in my head the other night while watching the Tigers and Yankees game, so I figured what the hell, might as well give it another go around.
Speaking of the Yankees, has there ever been a situation where a press conference had to be held to announce the manager was coming back? It would be on thing if it were Billy Martin of course, but this whole thing was just silly. I understand why they did it of course with all the speculation and whatnot but it also begs the question of what kind of responsibility the media has in all of this, but that's another rant for another day.
Jeanne Zelasko just did a recap of the last half dozen years of Tigers baseball while speaking like the Micro Machines guy...honestly I have no problem with that all, in fact it's better for the viewing public if something like that is done quicker.
Why is it that I can get a job yet Michael Rappaport keeps getting acting jobs? Does this make sense to anyone? Anyone at all, didn't think so.
No Joe Buck or Tim McCarver....do you think they refused to do this series because the Yankees aren't involved? Yeah, me too. Instead we have Thom Brennamen, who pronounces his name withouth the H which makes me wonder why it's there. Coloring everything in is Steve Lyons who once dropped his pants in the middle of a game and Lou Pinella who quite honestly knows his baseball. In all honesty I wish Lou could swear and say what he actually thinks during the broadcast, it would make it much more entertaining.
How great is the upper management in Oakland? So great they're keeping the highest level of seating covered in a green tarp to make the ballpark more "intimate". Granted, this is something they have done all season, but are you really going to turn away 10,000 people that suddenly want to see Oakland play baseball for an "intimate" feeling? I've been to that ballpark before and honestly I think the Grand Canyon is more intimate than that stadium and I don't think a tarp will make that much of a difference, but remember, I'm 23, unemployed and live at home, so don't take too much weight with my words.
Barry Zito is pitching for the A's and if they somehow reach the World Series and he pitches great the whole way there, how high does that drive his free agency price? Assuming he's already in the $15-16 million range would he get upwards of $18 million a year? $19 million maybe? With the Yankees most obvious and most talked about weakness pitching is it a forgone conclusion that he's already there.
The commentators were just talking about how the A's wouldn't have made the playoffs without Frank Thomas and how Jim Thome had a better line-up in Chicago and that the White Sox are at home watching the playoffs. I think Ken Williams just shot his TV.
I think if you combined all the foul ground in Fenway Park it wouldn't even equal the foul territory off of third base in Oakland.
We've just been informed that the Oakland players have knicknamed Milton Bradley T.O. as in after Terrell Owens and that they keep his temper in check by joking with him about it. Nope, that's not playing with a powder keg, not at all.
Apparently Oakland is bad offensively, something we all knew, so how were they able to win so much? Fox told me it was their pitching and defense, I say it's because they play in the NL West. Believe who you want.
Is anyone else as excited for the Giants vs. Falcons this coming Sunday just to see which quarterback loses the game for his team? Hell, I hope Eli and Vick get hurt this week so we get Matt Schaub vs. Jared Lorenzen, but that's just me.
Why does Nick Swisher bother me? I can't figure this out. By all accounts he plays hard, works at the game the right way but there's just something about him. For some reason he reminds me of business majors I knew in college that thought the weekend started on Wednesday and ended on Monday and always needed to borrow your notes from class.
Ivan Rodriguez can no longer be called Pudge, just can't be. He's not pudgy anymore, ironically dropping a large amount of weight after an off season of speculated steriod use. Maybe he just cut Del Taco out of his diet like Jason Giambi did.
I'm watching the Celtics pre-season game against the Cavs for a bit and sometimes I hate the NBA. I look at Ira Newble who plays for Cleveland and he's a terrible NBA player and basketball player in general and yet if I attemped to play him 1-on-1 he would destroy me....damn you NBA.
Swisher just got rung up....and for some reason I feel happy....man am I bitter.
Scott Pollard and Michael Olowokandi are playing at center for the Cavs and Celtics respectively....the biggest difference between those two guys and me you ask? About a foot of height.
Why is it when a guy is picked up off of waivers and plays well for a team, the announcers always say it's because of good scouting? The guy got waived, it wouldn't have anything to do with the team picking him up getting lucky, would it?
Tommy Heinsohn just compared a pass Rajon Rondo made to a pass the Bob Cousy or Larry Bird would make....I don't even know what to say there. No offense to Rondo but that's like comparing ground chuck beef to fillet mignon and veal.
I want to make fun of the broadcasters, I really do, but so far they haven't said anything all that stupid....kind of makes me wish for McCarver right now. Yeah ok that last part was a lie.
Where did all these Oakland fans come from? Seriously during the season when the Sox played them the Sox fans were louder than the A's fans beacuse there were more of them and the stands weren't even full. It's amazing how the playoffs cause the bandwagoners to come out of the woodwork.
Barry Zito can find the strike zone so with the bases loaded Magglio Ordonez swings at the first pitch, but Chavez can't come up with the ground ball to him so the run scores. Still though after walking two straight wouldn't you work the count. Lets see what the next hitter does.
Carlos Guillen fouls off the first pitch he sees....maybe I don't understand baseball as much as I thought....or maybe the Tigers aren't as good as everyone thinks....remember though I'm 23, unemployed and live at home....I'll be making that point a lot just so you know.
Back to the Celtics....does it bother anyone else that Brian Scalabrine looks out of breath just walking to the scorer's table?
Milton Bradley is up again....I hope he gets called out on strikes then drop kicks the umpire. Grounded into a double play seconds after I finished typing that....damn.
I normally make fun of Fox and there presentation of the games but this slow-mo cam thing is outstanding.
Couple of quick runs have scored and Zito's price is now back down to $16million.
It's 5-0 Tigers, I watching garbage time pre-season basketball for a bit simply because it's more exciting.
Might cut this one short tonight....can't seem to find the funny.
Just wondering but how have Jay Payton and Milton Bradley not fought to the death yet? Has this been looked into by the proper authorities? I'm honestly dumbfounded and amazed by this.
The size of the ballpark in Oakland is approximately the size of Rhode Island....how can they be so bad offensively? Is Billy Beane really a genius is he plays in a ballpark where speed should be a premium yet the A's have no speed on their roster?
I think I'm tapped out....will try this again in a few days, be good.
